Apple Crisp

Raw apples taste great but their flavor goes to the next level when turned into pie or cider. Apple Crisp is another important note in the apple flavor gamut. Combined with the crunchy texture of caramelized sugar and soft rich ice cream, you will probably make this one of your go-to desserts. Luckily, it’s very easy and you can pull it together while waiting for your main course.

Ingredients

  1. Peel the apples and slice them thinly. Put them in a rather shallow 1-quart casserole and sprinkle them with ¼ cup water.

  2. Sift together

  3. Cut in ½ cup butter to the dry ingredients until all is well combined.

  4. Sprinkle the topping thickly and evenly over the apples. Don’t mix the two together.

  5. Cover the dish and bake at 350° for 20 minutes, then uncover and cook another 30 minutes.

How do you know when it’s done?

The crust will be crisp on top, and will have partly seeped down through the apples, flavoring them and binding them slightly together.

  6. Serve hot or cold, alone or with vanilla ice cream.
